We want to start this post with a special shout out to all the Mother's out there. Happy Mother's Day! Today is Mother's Day in the US and Australia (and possibly other countries).  Happy Mother's day to Delores (Mike's Mom) and Colleen (Linda's Mom) and most definitely Linda herself!  Last Sunday was Mother's Day here in Spain and we had the pleasure of celebrating the day with our good friend Ana Munoz and her family.

We had a glorious, 7 mile, 2 hour walk to Logrono today.  Logrono is a town of approximately 150,000 and the capital city of The Rioja  region, which of course is well known for its wine. It is an absolutely beautiful city, with a thriving University.

You see lots of modes of transport on the Camino, mostly walking and biking.  But today, we saw our first horses!   I was lucky enough to capture this moment in the attached photo.

We walked the last couple of km into Logono with a delightful young Irish guy named Stefen.  He was very interesting, and we had a great conversation about  the future of the European Union.

We are staying in another terrific hotel (in?)conveniently located next to the beautiful cathedral in Logrono.  Today we went into the cathedral around 1:30 and it was jam packed.  We learned that today is the first communion ceremony for the new young members of the church.

Later, we had an outstanding Sunday lunch in a restaurant here in town.  Let me explain a little bit about the challenges of Spanish dining.  "Restaurants"are typically only open from 9:00 PM and on Sunday afternoon.  Bars and cafes, which serve food, but almost always of a lower quality, are open most hours.  There are also special places along the way that serve so called pilgrim's meals, that are cheap, healthy meals.  Perhaps just a notch above the quality of bar meals.  Because regular restaurants do not open until 9:00, we have not eaten in any until today (except last Saturday in Barelona).  So, the dining has been ok, but not great.  Today was great!  One funny story from today- we ordered a very nice meal, with a good bottle of wine.  While we were eating, the people at the table next to us left.  They had only only finished a little over half their bottle of wine.  The waiter brought the unfmished bottle of wine over to our table!  It was a terrific wine.  We have never had this happen before!

Tomorrow will be a long walk of almost 20 miles.  We are both nursing several blisters and toenails that are falling off, so we are hopeful that all goes well.
