Monday May 21 Hornillas to Castrojeriz
The theme song for today is the Beatles "Here Comes the Sun". For the first time in 6 days, we wake to sunny skies. It is cool, but clear. The first 3 miles go very quickly, with the biggest challenge being to avoid the numerous puddles in the pathway. And then it happens.....the pathway turns into a total mud pit for the next 3 miles. One painful step at a time, with boots becoming heavier and heavier by the minute. Linda falls again, fortunately this time only on mud and not rocks! Fortunately she was ok, although a bit dirty. Whereas the first 3 miles probably took an hour, the next 3 miles took 2 hours.
We then stopped for a short coffee break in the small town of Hornatas along the way. From Hornatas, we finished the last 6 miles in excellent time, arriving in Castrojjeriz around 1:30. After we got to the room, we washed our clothes (once again using the bidet as a laundry tub), as we were very dirty.
So, all in all a pretty straight forward day. I do want to recognize the two French women along the way who responded to my "buenos Dias" with a buenos Dias of their own! For those of you keeping score, here's the day and walk to date stats:
French people response to buenos Dias:
Bonjour Buenos Dias
5/21 9 2
Walk to date 145 3
So, you can see that yesterday was a statistical anomaly. Lets see what tomorrow brings!
We have a 17 mile hike to Hornista on Tuesday.

Love the pictures! I think I saw a sock in one of the previous pictures.
